The sun wasn't the only thing shining at Saturday's 5th Annual Las Vegas Labor Day Classic. Palo Verde freshman Katie Gorczyca stole the show by clocking the fastest time of the day in 17:18 on the 2.8 mile course. Palo Verde's Marissa Suan (19:58), Ashley Koch (20:11), and Sarah Leiserowtiz (20:55) also ran strong taking the runner-up trophy in a close battle with Green Valley. Congratulations to Ava Benham (26:36) for finishing her first cross country race and fellow freshman Isabel Guerra (28:34) for improving by 20 seconds for this distance. In the Junior-Senior race, Kelsi Koch hung with the leaders the whole way finishing a solid third in the field of 100 runners with a personal record of 18:27. The efforts of Nicole Vanderstelt (19:30) and Theresa Guerra (20:21) led the Panthers to a third place finish behind Coronado and Green Valley. Junior Samantha Mendivel (24:30) and Senior Kristi Jones (24:32) also ran season PR's in Saturday's race. Congratulations to everyone for gliding over the hay bails without falling and dominating Heart Break Hill on Saturday.
